The Weekend Edit: 26th January

The Weekend Edit: 26th January by business consultant and former CEO, Denyse Whillier | Built To Succeed

Welcome to the fourth edition of The Weekend Edition in this new series. This is where I share articles and sites – sometimes an occasional video - which I think you’ll enjoy. You’ll know by now that The Weekend Edit is best enjoyed with a pastry and coffee. But really, whatever self-care ritual you find most enjoyable.

Here's a selection of articles I've been reading this past week:

One of the things I most dislike about Brexit – and there are many – is the way political discourse is being configured in terms of betrayal and belief, purists and heretics, loyalists and saboteurs. This puts me in mind of the highly partisan, polarised politics of the US. In The Brexit Blog, Chris Grey explores the costs of poisoning our politics.

Over in The Irish Times, the always excellent Fintan O’Toole explains why Brexit is as much about belonging and a crisis of identity as it is about economics.

I’ve been following coverage of the US government shutdown, appalled that employees can be denied pay and used as political pawns. Thankfully this couldn’t happen in the UK. The only good thing to come out of this whole sorry debacle is the vindification of Nancy Pelosi. My goodness, she’s a badass and I’m enjoying seeing her deal with Trump’s toddler tantrums.

I’m always thinking about ways I can be more productive, and for me this starts with good health. If you struggle with sleep, you’ll want to read Everything You Need To Know About Magnesium and How To Get To Sleep In 7 Steps in Liz Earle Wellbeing. And if this cold snap has brought on a cold and flu bug, you may be interested in these natural remedies. This recipe for 'golden milk,' made with turmeric and ginger, is part of my evening routine.

If you’re looking for inspiration for your purpose-led business, you could do no better than look to the example of apparel brands, Patagonia and TOMS.

Have a great weekend. And happy reading.

Which blogs and sites do you check in to regularly and think might be of interest to other purpose-led business owners? I love reading your feedback so please do take a moment to tell me in the comments box below.
