The Weekend Edit | 27th July, 2019

Happy Saturday! I hope you've been enjoying the heatwave? I didn’t manage to get to the beach because I’ve been working closely with a client to transform their sales results as part of a turnaround project. The hard work paid off as July has been their best month to date, with sales up over £25,000 on last year.

After a few weeks of trying very hard not to think about the Tory leadership contest, it’s time to confront the brutal reality. The views Jonathan Freedland expresses in his opinion piece for The Guardian are in tandem with my own.

These are the articles I recommend you read:

You may also like my articles “Reading The Brexit Tea Leaves” and “How Do You Feel About The Current State Of Affairs?”

Johnson’s mixture of bluster and bullshit is fine in the public domain, but in the quiet of the airy office on the third floor of the German chancellery it will count for nothing.
— Jonathan Powell, former chief of staff to Tony Blair

Alternatively, you may wish to “pass go,” pour yourself a stiff gin and tonic and stick your head firmly in the sand. In which case I heartily recommend:

Churchill’s war cabinet was a cross-party coalition formed to get us out of the shit; this is a bunch of ultras (Johnson, Gove, Javid, Raab, Cox and Barclay) who intend to land us in it.
— Author, Robert Harris
