7 Royal Wedding Marketing Ideas
With Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s marriage just three weeks away, analysts are expecting their wedding to generate a bumper boost in sales. The Royals are big business for the UK, which is why I’m going to explore 7 Royal Wedding marketing ideas to help you to generate more sales.
According to the UK Office of National Statistics, the marriage of Harry’s older brother, William, to Kate Middleton in April 2011 boosted the number of visitors to the country by 350,000 that month alone. While their wedding accounted for a £527m increase in UK retail spending, including £199m on wedding souvenirs and memorabilia on the public holiday, according to an estimate from the Centre for Retail Research.
The economic bump will probably be less pronounced for Harry and Megan’s big day. However we can expect the power of the royal stardust to be compounded by Markle, the star of USA Network’s “Suits,” whose personal brand will draw even more Americans into the wedding fever. UK businesses therefore have an additional opportunity to increase their sales and presence in the US market.
1. ORGANISE A RIGHT ROYAL CELEBRATION
Take inspiration from Fortnum & Mason, London's most luxurious department store, which is launching a very special afternoon tea to celebrate the impending nuptials of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Throughout the month of May, the shop will be serving royal inspired cakes, sandwiches and tea, in honour of the royal couple as well as hosting a live screening on the big day itself. The tea will include canapés and cakes that reflect the bride and groom's heritages. While the pièce de résistance will be a cake mirroring the couple’s wedding cake flavour, a lemon and elderflower mini celebration cake, topped with an H and an M, and ribboned with a commemorative design.
=> Could you organise a royal celebration such as a viewing party or afternoon tea or a fine dining experience?

2. SELL A LIMITED EDITION PRODUCT
Fortnum & Mason have created a limited edition blend to commemorate the royal marriage. Named the Wedding Bouquet, this blend marries English and American-grown mint with Jasmine green tea and is adorned with rose petals. For those who prefer a more traditional Assam blend, The Royal, blended in 1902 for King Edward is a very popular longstanding product in the tea hall.
=> How about creating a limited edition product like a lemon and elderflower mini celebration cake or a peony and rose bouquet?
3. SEND YOUR BEST CUSTOMERS A COMMEMORATIVE GIFT
Fortnum & Mason’s Jamboree Hamper, brimming with sparkles and tipples (of the tea and stronger kind), jars of sweetness and other scrumptious of treats would make a lovely gift to say thank you to a high end client. While pieces from The Royal Collection, created by William Edwards and hand-decorated in Stoke-on-Trent, England would make a more affordable gift for tea lovers. Each piece incorporates the UK's national emblems along with the couple's combined initials in 22 carat gold and platinum, making this a unique gift for your most special clients.
=> If you work with high end clients, a lovely touch would be to send a commemorative gift, tailored to their individual tastes. Or organise a bespoke flower workshop inspired by the designs of Philippa Craddock.
4. HOST A ROYAL WEDDING THEMED WORKSHOP
Fortnum’s have invited children aged 5-12 for a special Royal Wedding themed arts & crafts workshop. Arty experts will teach young Fortnum’s visitors how to create and decorate their own crowns to celebrate the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
=> Could you run a Royal Wedding themed workshop or event for your younger customers?
5. DRESS YOUR SHOP FRONT
Meghan Markle has selected Philippa Craddock to create her bouquet and flower displays. Craddock has has created the most beautiful floral displays for businesses like The White Company. Most of us don't have this sort of budget to spend on a display. But we could dress our own shop front, whether that's a retail shop, a market stall, a website or social media. This could be as simple as featuring signature flowers from the Royal Wedding on your Instagram feed to commissioning event flowers for your shop front. The more dazzling your display, the more your business will get noticed for all the right reasons.
6. DONATE TO ONE OF THE 7 SELECTED ROYAL WEDDING CHARITY
The couple have selected 7 charities to be the recipient of donations in lieu of gifts. If any of these charities align with your core values and interests, you might want to consider how you could make a donation.
7. BECOME AN AFFILIATE FOR PREZOLA
The Prezola Affiliate Program is a beneficial partnership between the Prezola's wedding gift list and the UK's best wedding suppliers. Along with an opportunity to partner with Feefo's only "Trusted Service Award" gift list, this commercial partnership rewards gift list referrals with commission for its affiliate partners.
