WHY BOOK A BUSINESS STRATEGY DAY?

Do you want to create an annual plan for your business but aren’t sure what to include? 

If so, an annual strategic planning day might be perfect for you.

A Strategy Day is my one-day annual strategic planning service where I work with you, and if you have one, your team, for one day and guide you through my 4-step planning process. This means that by the end of the day, you’ll have a strategic plan for the year ahead to take your business from where it is now to achieving your end goals.

As a former CEO, I’m a big fan of strategic planning and this is something I do before the start of the New Year. In the world of big business, it’s standard practice to have an away day once a year and create an annual plan for your business. It helps you to gain a true understanding of your current position, get clear about what you want to achieve over the next year and then create an action plan in order to achieve your goals.

In the world of small business, strategic planning is a rarity and most solopreneurs and micro-business owners don’t have an annual plan. They spend the majority of their time working in the business, on activities that are essential for the day-to-day operations, but have very little time to put on their CEO hat and work on their business.

Even if you do set aside time for a ‘CEO Day,’ annual planning by yourself can be tricky.

  • You may struggle to take your big goals and create a plan to achieve them.

  • You might not have the knowledge for creating an effective marketing and sales strategy.

  • You may not have the analytical mind to properly review your financial, sales and marketing data. You might have a money mindset that impacts your approach to pricing.

You don’t have to do it on your own. During a Strategy Day, I’ll be by your side every step of the way supporting you to get crystal clear about what you want to achieve, make the big strategic decisions and create a personalised business growth strategy for doing so.

Here’s what you can expect.

How A Strategy Day Works

Once you’ve booked your Strategy Day I’ll send you a questionnaire. This questionnaire has three purposes.

  • Firstly, to provide me with a range of information so that I can get up-to-speed with your business before we meet.

  • Secondly, to get you thinking ahead of the day so that you can make the most of our day together.

  • Thirdly, to outline the information you’ll need to gather before the day (financials, sales, marketing and company) so you can easily access it on the day. 

Then we’ll meet at the agreed time and date, either in person or on Zoom, and explore areas such as:

  • Your strategic priorities – where are the areas of opportunity and what you should be focusing on.

  • Your brand – what you want to be the go-to business for and how can you get better known by your target market. 

  • Your sales and marketing strategy – the best strategies for your business to generate steady, sustainable leads and grow.

  • Your profit potential - where the opportunities are to increase your bottom line so that you can fix any financial issues, improve your cash flow and be able to give yourself regular pay rises.

  • Your company – what you need to put in place so that your business runs smoothly.

Afterwards, I’ll send you a follow-up email, together with a practical and actionable done-for-you strategic plan. 

There is also an option to either book quarterly review days with me or monthly strategic business coaching sessions.

 

Pre-Work | Questionnaire

 

I’ll send you a detailed questionnaire to help me get a good understanding of where your business is at currently. Covering a range of topics, the questionnaire will provide me with the information I need to help identify where things are working well, as well as the opportunities and areas for development.

We’ll meet for a 30-minute Zoom call to walk through the questionnaire and make sure you're comfortable with what you need to pull together and how to complete it.

 

The Strategy Day

 

Once you’ve completed the questionnaire, I’ll review the detail and prepare for our meeting. (If the Day is on Zoom rather than in-person, we’ll split it across two sessions).

The Strategy Day is split up into four areas: 

  • A reflection on where your business is now.

  • A review of your end goals - your vision, mission, values, business model, target market and ideal customer.

  • An evaluation of what this means for building your brand, growth strategy, financial health, company operations, living your mission and values and professional development. 

  • Monthly Action Plan  

 

Aftercare and Add-ons

 

Two weeks of email support after you receive my follow up email, recommendations and 12-month plan of action to ask any questions you might have about implementation.

  • Yes, I follow a similar strategic planning process to the one I used as a Chief Executive: a process which aims to answer the following four seemingly simple questions:

    1. Where are you now?

    2. Where are you going?

    3. Which recommendations will best support you in bridging the gap?

    4. How will you measure progress towards that envisioned future?

  • The investment is £1,500 for a micro-business turning over less than £250,000/ annum.

    For small and medium sized businesses, the investment is from £2,500 and depends on the scope of the project.

  • If we meet in-person, the day normally runs from 9.30am to 4.30pm, with an hour break for lunch and some fresh air. We can adjust the time to accommodate travel arrangements.

    If we meet on Zoom, we’ll split the Strategy Day into two sessions.

    For those abroad, I’m happy to run the Strategy Day outside these hours.

  • I book one to two Strategy Days a month. This does mean that I get booked up rather quickly, particularly in October to December and February and March for UK business owners who tend to plan based on the financial year. I recommend reaching out as early as you can.

  • Most people who book a Strategy Day with me often go on to book one of the following:
